Metro vs rideshare vs private car
| Option | Time from downtown | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Metro Silver Line | About 50–65 min | Direct to the Dulles Airport station, connected to the terminal by a walkway. Cheapest, but slow with luggage or a group. |
| Taxi or rideshare | About 40–60 min | On demand; prices rise at busy times. Expect a queue at peak hours. |
| Private car service | About 40–60 min | Flat rate agreed in advance, a chauffeur at your door and help with bags. Sedans from $105. |
Times are typical; rush hour on I-66 and the Dulles Toll Road can add 30 minutes or more.

By car
The route and the timing
From downtown, drivers take I-66 west to the Dulles Access Road, which runs straight to the terminal. The access road is reserved for airport traffic, so the last stretch is usually quick.
The slow part is getting out of the city and through Arlington. Weekday mornings and late afternoons are the busiest; our chauffeurs plan pickup times around them.
