Types of DC wedding venues
Grand hotels
Historic downtown hotels such as the Willard InterContinental and the Mayflower offer ballrooms, catering and rooms for guests under one roof.
Museums & landmarks
Spaces like the National Building Museum’s Great Hall give a dramatic setting for large receptions.
Historic houses
Georgetown and Dupont Circle mansions suit smaller, elegant weddings with gardens and period rooms.
Waterfront venues
The Wharf, Georgetown Waterfront and Old Town Alexandria offer river views and rooftop terraces.
Virginia estates
Loudoun and Fauquier estates such as Oatlands and Morven Park offer lawns, barns and mountain views.
Wineries
Many Virginia wineries host ceremonies and receptions among the vines.

Transportation planning
Getting everyone there on time
Transportation is easy to leave until last, but it shapes the whole timeline. A downtown hotel wedding may need only a getaway car, while a Virginia estate an hour from the guest hotels needs a full shuttle plan.
- Wedding party: Sprinters or a Sprinter limo from the hotel to photos, ceremony and reception
- The couple: an S-Class or Escalade for arrival and getaway
- Guests: shuttle loops between hotels and the venue
- Out-of-town family: airport pickups the weekend of the wedding
Rule of thumb
How many vehicles?
| Group | Suggested vehicle |
|---|---|
| The couple | S-Class or Escalade |
| Wedding party of up to 14 | One Sprinter or Sprinter limo |
| Up to 37 guests per run | Minibus |
| Larger guest lists | Several minibuses or a motor coach (through partners) |
